A race was put togther along the Lincoln Marathon route before it began today. We met up at 3 am and began at 3:30. It was a perfect morning for a fast spin. Since there weren't many racers willing to get up / stay up we rode togther and stopped for breakfast at the Hi-Way Diner less than half-way through.
After some fuel we finished the marathon on two wheels. The winner beat me to the finish line by 15 seconds and I came away with the prize for DFL. The Crash The Marathon race was a brilliant idea copied from a LA Ca. alleycat style race held before their marathon. After riding back home as the sun rose over Lincoln I had 34.4 miles for the day by 6:30 am. Now, time for a nap.
I used to ride in the Marathon every year. Usually right behind the lead runner. What a hoot! Everyone is cheering as you go through the water stations & people lined throughout the course. Of course I also provided radio comm for the event too. Missed it this year. :-(
