The Warriors Hustle

Tonight biker gangs were on the loose in Lincoln! The theme for the Hustle was The Warriors and we were grouped into "gangs" of 3. Everyone had to go to one checkpoint, and the other 10 checkpoints could be divided up among the members of your "gang". There were points given at each checkpoint, and they could be taken by another gang in a 'Rumble'. Tonight's Hustle was sponsored in part by Modern Monks.

I even took a picture of Syd and I at Tierra Park to prove we were there. Since we didn't realize the checkpoint was on the asphalt loop in the woods. We were out of time and hoped it would suffice.

My gang rode hard and did a great job, and even though we finished well, our points were low and we came in dead last.

The race started with temps over 100' and a stiff South wind, but there was still and good turnout. I raced around 13.5 miles and including the ride there and back I got 23.3 miles in tonight.

Next months Hustle will be a big one with a big prize!

We will pump *clap* you up!

The other day when I got two flats on the Austro-Diamler I aired them up with the CO2 inflator, but it was old and wore out and dosent work right any more. I decided to get a pump instead and found out it'd come in today. So, on the way home from work I stopped in at MWC to pick it up. I should be set now.

Otherwise it was a rocking ride to the office, and a hot muggy ride into a headwind home. But it still beats driving.

Today's miles on the work commute = 21.15

Hard Rocking Nacho Ride.

I took the Felt to work and back home. Then rode the Austro-Daimler to the Mopac trailhead for the Nacho Ride. Jon was kind enough to fix me up with some new duds from the Biiklops art show. Thanks Jon.

There was another big crowd with a line to order stretching out to the street at the One Eye'd Dog Saloon in Eagle. Lots of Nacho Ride regulars and plenty of newbies too. You can always tell who is new, their the ones who order a full order of nachos before they realize it's more than they can eat.

The highlight of tonight's ride was seeing Councel show up on his Specialized Hard Rock and try to keep up with us on the horse trails while we were on the Mopac with our road bikes. Too bad he got his pretty socks all wet when he under estimated the depth of a mud puddle he called a "lake". Lol!

I'm still struggling to get used to how far it is from the banks of Beal Brook to the Mopac trailhead, but the extra distance helps the miles add up. Today's miles = 57.61

A wheel bad commute.

On yesterday's work commute I got a flat on the Austro-Diemler while riding through the Antelope Valley Project, I fixed it and a mile later... *BANG!* another blow out. I figured the wheel must be bad and had Bike Pedalers retape it. Since I ruined my spare tube I had to get a ride home and ended the day with 7.48 miles.

Straight home to end TDN.

That paceline made riding into the wind MUCH faster and easier for everyone. At times it was 20 bikers long. We kept it going, then at Roca Rd. Several of us peeled off and rode home while the others continued to Syracuse for the finish. I had to hurry home for an afternoon party. I hung the bike up with 37 miles for the day. That puts my 3rd TDN in the books. What fun!

As we rode city trails home we came across Mary and the others working one of the Trail Trek event booths. Lincoln Trails were full of cyclists today because of Trail Trek.

On day 4 TDN bikers break in Harbine.

Business and gravy is on the menu and red beers are being served. Locals say there was 1 1/2" to 2" of rain early this morning.

Rain jackets come off in Jansen as we use caution on wet tracks.

A cyclist went down hard when they hit these wet R.R. Tracks outside of Jansen. They were taken into the hospital to get checked over and should be fine.

Oh yes I did!

I've never got a room before on TDN, but tonight I splurged for a hot shower, A/C and a soft bed. Do I feel guilty? No. Ha!

Today ended with 73.5 miles.

Fairbury - Tour De Nebraska's day 3 overnight stop.

I pulled into Fairbury feeling proud of myself. Only to find Fixie Bob there without a drop of sweat on his brow. He's hardcore, and the day after TDN is over he's doing the 5 days, 500 miles ride. What an animal!

Flat as a board and never warps.

While we had some hills, today's ride had some long flat straight-aways. And with the tailwind we had it was easy to maintain speeds around 20 mph making the miles fast and fun.
