The Frosty Bike Ride.

The Frosty Bike Ride was rescheduled to today after our heavy snow on February 4th. The route was also changed from the Fox to the Zoo and back rather than Roca because the Jamaica North is still snow covered. There were over 150 riders signed up. I rode with lots of friends and we had hot chocolate at the turnaround point in the parking lot of the Zoo.

The Fox had burgers and fries for everyone and there were lots of raffle prizes. Tony and I came away with Road ID gift certificates. And they even gave away a nice Giant bike from Cycleworks.
Riding to the Fox, the Frosty Bike Ride and the trip home came to 20.1 miles for the day.

All dressed up and no place to go.

The rack and bag for my Trek FX 7.6 came in today. I got it put on this evening and can't wait to use it. Today's ride to work was 18'F. the ride home was 60'F. With a forty degree swing I'm having to haul layers home that I needed to wear on the way into the office. I've got by with my messenger bag, but I'd rather haul stuff on the bike than my back. Problem is, we've got a big winter storm rolling in, so it's hard telling when I'll ride it again.
This morning had a killer sunrise. They always look better from behind bars than through a windshield.
I'll ride the Austro-Dieamler on Saturday's Frosty Bike Ride since we'll be pedaling in snow. Oh well, it'll give us something to laugh about when we're on a sweltering ride this summer. Today's miles to work and back = 21.0

Joy

With a new commuter and great weather finding this sidewalk art in the park was serendipity. Today's miles to work and back = 20.8

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Washington is working to devastate funding for cycling, pedestrians and the handicapped. This is the worst news in years as far as sustainable transportation is concerned. Check out www.bikeleague.org for the details and to find out what you need to do to help before the crucial vote on February 2nd.
On a lighter note today's commute was the best with another gorgeous day on the bike paths across the capital city. I parked the bike with 20.9 miles for the day.

A new commuter for Valentine's. The 2009 Trek FX 7.6.

The Mrs. with some help from the fine folks at the Bike Rack set me up with a bike I've wanted for years. Back in 2009 I rode this bike, yes, this very same exact bike, I loved it then, and now realized they had taken it to their Omaha store and marked it down. We had them send it back to Lincoln for another look and after giving it a good test ride I took it home for keeps. Check out their closeout bikes on line or in the basement of the Omaha Bike Rack. I took it to work giving it a healthy start on racking up the commute miles.

Today Lincoln's record breaking high temp hit 70'F.! Lots of bikes were out on the trails this afternoon as cyclists snuck out for a spin. Today's miles = 21.25.

This is a test.

I'm test riding a Valentines gift and took it down the bike paths to the tune of 19 miles today.

68 degrees in early January!

The sun was out causing record high temps today and the bike paths in Lincoln were full of people enjoying it. I'm seeing fewer bums since the 27th St. overpass has been fenced off to keep the homeless from sleeping under the bridge. This should help cyclists feel more comfortable on the John Dietrich. Get out there and go for a spin. Today's miles = 20.75

The 2012 GPBC New Years Day Ride.

We met up for breakfast at Village Inn before riding around Holmes Lake and on to the Zoo then home. It was great to see everyone and talk about the rides we're going to do during 2012. Today's miles = 12.84

A little late.

It's late in the year to try and get 2011's mileage total any higher, but this great weather and a breather at work gave me the chance to ride across town to the office and back yesterday and today. The last half of 2011 had me working pretty hard, but I look forward to slowing down and spending more time in the saddle next year. These two commutes added up to 40.83 miles.

The Nintendo Hustle.

After a long hiatus from biking due to a hectic work schedule I took time tonight to host the 'Paperboy Challenge Checkpoint' on Josh's Nintendo Hustle. I couldn't race, but did ride to the finish to catch up with the other Hustlers downtown. It was a good night and it was great to get back on the bike! Everyone is looking forward to this weekend's cx races at Pioneers Park. Tonight's miles = 9.96
