A path of destruction.

Along the bike path on this mornings commute I was disappointed to see this home burned and family displaced. The fire department had it under control but was still on the scene.

On the way home I came across the demolition of the Holdrege street overpass. This is near the junction of the John Dietrich and Antelope Valley Trails and I am hoping when they rebuild the overpass they'll include a bike path across it.

Letting go is hard to do.

Today is the last day if summer vacation for most area kids, but despite temps of 66' a brisk wind, and sprinkles they couldn't let summer slip away with out savoring the last afternoon at the pool along the Billy Wolff bike path.

It's a sign of the times.

New signs have gone in on the new Antelope Valley Trails on the east side of the downtown area showing that the park is closed from 11pm to 5am. Will this drive the sleeping bums out from under the bridges? The few that regularly spend the night down there have never bothered me and one even makes a point of smiling and telling me 'good morning' as I ride by going to work. Late this afternoon we went for a lap around Holmes Lake too.

Today's miles = 23.3

Hawaiian themed Nacho Ride is Tuesday!

Tomorrow is the annual "Hawaiian Nacho Ride" come as you are, or swing by a thrift shop to pick up a Hawaiian shirt or lei. Last years Hawaiian Nacho Ride was the biggest ever and this one promises to bring out another fun crowd.

A group of us will leave the trailhead on 84th just South of O St. at 5:30, otherwise there are bikers leaving throughout the afternoon/evening on the 10 mile ride to Eagle. There will be Nachos, 75 cent tacos or anything else off the menu at the OED. Click here or here to find out more about the Nacho Ride - hope to see you there!

Gonna make a cyclist out of her yet.

Today was a great day for biking, and of course, just my luck, we were really busy. But the wife and I did sneak off this evening for a quick ride to South Point. It was 10.7 miles.

The Michael Bikel Hustle Party and Sprints.

Tonight Michael Bikel hosted a party and parking lot sprint races. There were door prizes and prizes for top finishers in the sprints. I came away with 4th after pushing Aaron off his line when he made a break at the finish. He's a gentleman and wouldn't allow me to trade him places in the final standings to make up for it.

It was a fun night and fun change from the usual hustle races. Today going to Branched Oak Lake and tonight's hustle I ended up with 66.0 miles.

Xterra Bolt race at Branched Oak Lake

I rode out to Branched Oak Lake to cheer on some friends racing today. I was asked to help run one of the timers giving me an up close view of the action. Competitors swam 1000 meters, rode mountain bikes 15 miles, then ran 5 miles. It was a perfect morning for it and it made for a fun ride out there and back. Click here and here to find out more.

Giant Bikes ladies demo

This afternoon Cycle Works brought the Giant ladies bike rep and their 2011 line to Lincoln for women to try out. The wife and I stopped by for her to try a couple out. The look on her face was to die for. She loved it! She's thinking she might be ready for something a little quicker.

It's Friday the 13th.

I began this morning like I do every single morning, by stumbling to the fridge for a Mountain Dew. I drank a little, took a shower, then sat on the bed to watch the News and CMT. I reached over for another swig, bumped the cup and DUMPED a bunch of pop onto my cell phone on my night stand.

I dried it out, but the phone was shot. I rode to Verizon from work for a new one then went home.

By midafternoon I started feeling crappy. We've had this crud working it's way through the house, and I'm afraid I'm coming down with it now. I hope to kick it so my plans for tomorrow aren't spoiled. I intend to ride to Branched Oak Lake to cheer on friends in the xterra bolt races.

Cutting across residential areas like I did on the way home from work is shorter but takes longer. Today's miles on the work commute and trip to get a phone came to 18.5
