Someone tossed this perfectly fine glazed doughnut out on the bike path. It took all my self control not to consider it a work commute SAG stop. I kept going on an empty stomach with a unsatisfied sweet tooth. And you thought Tiger Woods had temptations he struggled with in his sport! I'll tell you, being a well behaved cyclist is hard!
On the way home I ran an errand and later went for an evening ride with the wife. Today's total miles = 25.9
The misses and I went for an evening spin on the path around the lake, it's a great night for it and there is no one I'd rather bike with. Plus, having biking on her mind can't hurt when she goes to pick out an anniversary gift for me later this month. I want her thinking about bikes rather than neck ties or socks! I'm stepping up the sweetness and leaving bike catalogs strung around the house. Let's hope it pays off. Lol!
All added up today I got 28.3 miles.
The ride into work rocked, but after I left the office I went to the dentist for the last appointment. Now after years of neglect my mouth is all fixed for the first time since high school. I'd say it's a great feeling to have it done. But right now I still can't feel a thing!
Tom Snyders was passing through Lincoln on his way to the Boulder International Fringe Festival in Colorado. I asked him if he'd join me at Pepe's on his way out of town. We met up on the Superior St trail and rode over. As always, Pepe served up some awesome Mexican! I loved hearing Tom's fascinating tails from biking over 150,000 miles touring around the globe.
For those of us riding the Billy Wolff trail West of 70th we haven't had a local bike shop along the trail since Bike Pedalers moved from 33rd & B to Pine Lake Rd.
And the John Dietrich hasn't had a shop as long as I know of.
Bike Pedalers and Scheels has the South Point Trail covered.
The Bike Rack takes care of those on the Hwy 2 Trail and the Rock Island Trail users.
Joyride handles cyclist on the Rock Island as well as those riding the Old Cheney Trail.
Cycle Works South store is there for anyone on the 70th St Trail and East side of the Billy Wolff Trail.
Cycle Works 27th & Vine store is handy for Mopac cyclist.
Well, now, Monkey Wrench Cycles has moved 7 blocks East, and is now just 2 blocks West of the Antelope Valley Trail at 19th & Q! They have doubled their space and are situated perfectly for UNL bikers, downtown cyclist, and Antelope Valley Trail users.
This is an exciting move for MWC and their new digs are already set up and ready for shoppers and bikers needing service work. Stop in and check out the new MWC shop and say "hi".
The new Antelope Valley Trail connects Lincoln's trails and has become a hub for cyclists riding from one part of the city to another. MWC is now positioned to be a handy stop for commuters to grab essentials or have quick repairs done.
I decided to sit out today's Nacho Ride. On the commute to work and back I got in 20.6 miles for the day.
Tonight the misses and I headed to Omaha to see Tom Snyders' live show. We loved it! He was hilarious and had everyone riveted with tails of his biking adventures.
I think everyone in some way dreams of living on the road and having as much fun as Tom Snyders as he tours the globe by bike entertaining and bringing humor to others. He's an outstanding person, amazing cyclist, and funny as hell! When he pedals your way, be sure to catch his show. You'll love it!
We made time to stop into Greenstreet Cycles while there. Their inventory is sweet, the staff was knowledgeable and the atmosphere in the shop was thick in bike culture. I'm sorry I waited so long to make it into Greenstreet Cycles. Don't make the same mistake, swing by and say 'hi' and take a look at their sweet bikes and gear!
It was a fun night and well worth the trip! Thanks to Greenstreet Cycles, Omaha Bikes and Tom Snyders for putting together an awesome evening!!!
On the way home from work I ran into Shane on his recently purchased - barely used Raleigh. It was a sweet find he ran across at Joyride and couldn't pass up.
Today's miles = 19.6
After seeing a sweet sunrise over Holmes Lake I rode North. Craig, Ashleigh, Council and myself met up at Hy-vee on 84th at 7am and headed North on 77 to Ceresco, at that point Council left us for Ashland and we turned West.
County Rd A was scenic and fast, we took some breaks then hit Raymond in time for dinner (not to be confused with supper). After Raymond we had a headwind and heat, as well as quite a bit of traffic from the lake. I got baked and should have used sunscreen. But the route was well planned and made for a fun day. Once back in Lincoln I went to work for a couple of hours before going home with 67.2 miles for the day.
