Date: Wednesday 4/20/11

Location: Intersection of the Billy Wolff Trail & Rock Island Trail on the North end of the Zoo.

Time: 9am

Put in now to take April 20 off as a vacation day. Celebrate spring on a ride around Lincoln with like-minded friends. Spend the workday riding while your co-workers toil away. Meet at 9am, ride is held on city trails. 40 miles long, ride for part of the day or the whole thing. 12-14 mph average speed. Last year's NSFW Ride was a ball!

Ride starts and ends at the intersection of the Rock Island Trail and Billy Wolfe Trail on the North Side of the Zoo at 27th & Capital Parkway.

Several Lincoln bike shops will have free refreshments, giveaways, discounts and prizes for NSFW riders! Including Joyride, Bike Pedalers, The Bike Rack, Cycle Works, & Monkey Wrench Cycles.

The route will feature stops at these shops giving riders a chance to refuel, visit, shop, register for prizes, and use bathrooms or have mechanics make adjustments.

The NSFW Ride will be a fun chance to meet other cyclist, check out new bikes and biking gear, as well as a great way to get in some miles while everyone else is stuck at work. No fee to ride, but bring lunch money, lunch will be at your choice of Havelock restaurants.

Cycle Works Movie Night & Greensprints At Bricktop.

Tonight Cycle Works hosted movie night featuring Life Cycles with refreshments and discounts for attendees. Afterward we went downtown to the Bricktop for Green Street Cycles Greensprints. It was put together by the PCL with help from Screen Ink. They were both fun events giving cyclists a chance to hang out and see each other.

This afternoon Cycle Works brought the Giant ladies bike rep and their 2011 line to Lincoln for women to try out. The wife and I stopped by for her to try a couple out. The look on her face was to die for. She loved it! She's thinking she might be ready for something a little quicker.

Finally, a LBS on my commute route.

For those of us riding the Billy Wolff trail West of 70th we haven't had a local bike shop along the trail since Bike Pedalers moved from 33rd & B to Pine Lake Rd.

And the John Dietrich hasn't had a shop as long as I know of.

Bike Pedalers and Scheels has the South Point Trail covered.

The Bike Rack takes care of those on the Hwy 2 Trail and the Rock Island Trail users.

Joyride handles cyclist on the Rock Island as well as those riding the Old Cheney Trail.

Cycle Works South store is there for anyone on the 70th St Trail and East side of the Billy Wolff Trail.

Cycle Works 27th & Vine store is handy for Mopac cyclist.

Well, now, Monkey Wrench Cycles has moved 7 blocks East, and is now just 2 blocks West of the Antelope Valley Trail at 19th & Q! They have doubled their space and are situated perfectly for UNL bikers, downtown cyclist, and Antelope Valley Trail users.

This is an exciting move for MWC and their new digs are already set up and ready for shoppers and bikers needing service work. Stop in and check out the new MWC shop and say "hi".

The new Antelope Valley Trail connects Lincoln's trails and has become a hub for cyclists riding from one part of the city to another. MWC is now positioned to be a handy stop for commuters to grab essentials or have quick repairs done.

I decided to sit out today's Nacho Ride. On the commute to work and back I got in 20.6 miles for the day.

Trek is giving away a bike, built the way you want on their web site. If you don't win they give you a coupon for a Trek waterbottle from a Trek dealer. On the way home from work I stopped to claim my prize and pick up some RAGBRAI provisions. I needed new bottle cages and since I got two the good folks at Cycle Works threw in one of their water bottles also.

Once home I gave my Felt a much needed cleaning, look at all the crap I had on it! But yet I had to stop to get more. Two locks! 5 lights! Rain jacket, 2 bags, saddle cover, mace, and a bike computer! I'm such a geek. I switched back to my road tires, washed it up, and have it looking like new again.

Today's miles on the work commute = 19.4

Cycle Works Tomac Open House.

Tomac based out of Lincoln Ne held an event at Cycle Works tonight with a chance to see the line, visit with company reps and enjoy refreshments and prizes including a 29" MTB frame.

There was a good crowd and everyone was hopping to be drawn for the frame. Jim came away with first prize. It was a great chance to see friends and browse the store.

After riding to this mornings bike to work event, riding on to work, then later to Cycle Works on 27th I got 35.4 miles for the day.

30 cyclist skipped work and braved a light rain today to ride around Lincoln on the NSFW (Not Sorry (for) Forgetting Work) Ride.

The ride was just over 43 miles and included stops at 5 Lincoln bike shops and lunch.

A special thanks to the Great Plains Bike Club, Joyride, Bike Pedalers, The Bike Rack & both Cycle Works locations, as well as Havelock area restaurants for making the NSFW ride so fun!

Including the ride there and back, and an evening spin with our youngest I logged 60.7 miles for the day.

Daylight savings time made getting up and going on time tuff today. The trails greeted me with a stiff headwind on the ride across town to work.

But, this afternoons tailwind more than made up for it! Going South was fast and fun. I detoured to Joyride, Bike Pedalers, The Bike Rack & Cycle Works 70th St store to leave off flyers about the April 21st NSFW ride. Be sure to stop in and pick one up and take a look around. I made my way home past Holmes Lake. I can't wait to get the canoe out and do some fishing, it won't be long! Today's miles = 33.4

Weather clears up for an afternoon commute.

Yesterday morning brought some very wet, slushy snow to Lincoln. My bike's slick tires are worthless in those conditions, so I played it safe and drove. This morning wasn't much better with light rain and a heavy headwind.

I hauled the bike to work and as conditions improved I was able to ride home. On the way I stopped at Pepe's and Cycle Works to drop off some NSFW flyers. I'll replenish the other sponsoring bike shops early next week. Today's miles = 11.2

1/2 a commute and a ride after work.

I rode to work and got my first flat of the year on the way. More like a slow leak actually. I aired it up a couple times and made it in without having to change the tube out.

I already had my pick-up at the office, I drove it to Columbus for a meeting and stopped off at Nebraska Cycling and Fitness (great bike shop! Stop in sometime) and picked up a few things. After I got back to the office this afternoon I switched out the tube, but wanted to join a ride at 6pm and didn't have time to ride home, so I drove.

I then rode from home to Cycle Works on 70th & Pioneers and met up with about a dozen others and we headed out for an 'urban assault' riding down the Billy Wolff to the Rock Island, then around the South Point loop and back on the Hwy. 2 trail, I broke off to go back to the house at the end. We had a great time, I got to meet several cyclist I hadn't rode with before. And it felt great to burn the cobs out tonight. We rode 18.8 miles. Including the 7 mile commute into work I got 25.8 miles in today.
