Nacho Ride 5:30 Attendance is Mandatory.

Happy Cinco De Mayo! Celebrate today as they do in Old Mexico by bike riding to eat Nachos and 75 cent Tacos - no H1-N1 virus mask needed.

The Nacho Ride is not an athletic type ride, it's very laid back and social. Free of charge, you don't need to be in any group or club or anything. If your fast there will be fast riders you can join. If your in-between their will be people just like you there too. And if your really slow, you can ride with me. You'll know me, cause I'll be the stinky guy with the big thighs.

Trust me, you'll love the Nacho Ride! Cancel your plans for this evening and we'll all meet just South of O St. on 84th at the Mopac Trail Head at 5:30. If your late, that's fine too, people will still be at the OED when you arrive.

Today's ride is the 1st anniversary of the Nacho Ride. Let's make it a big crowd.

Bike has no wipers, so took the Chevy to work.

Things were pretty wet early this morning. But cleared up later and made for some cool looking clouds this evening. I took a great ride before supper.

I took the Billy Wolff to the Rock Island to the Tierra Williamsburg to the South Point then back.

Talked to a couple I found on the trails about tomorrow's big Nacho ride and found out their going on the Tour De Nebraska too. I'm getting really excited and can't wait. But I feel like I've got to get some serious miles in by then so I don't die out there.

Keep checking my blog, its encouraging to see the hits add up and keeps me motivated.

A couple of miles into tonight's ride I turned 2500 miles on my bike's odometer. That's 2000 miles during 2008 and 500 so far this year. Got in 18.24 miles this evening.

Hope to see you tomorrow on the Nacho Ride!

I’m Loyal, but stinky. Marriage & Cycling.

We’ve been married for a long time. And we’ve never cheated or even so much as done anything to make the other feel jealous. We are cool with having a crush on a celebrity, but that’s as far as it goes. Or at least that's as far as it went till recently…

We’ve always kind of had this unwritten rule in our marriage that we don’t wear cologne or perfume when we’re apart. Packing cologne in my bag for a business trip would be comparable to coming home late on a rainy night with lipstick on my collar.

A while back, when I first started bike riding again after taking the winter off. I thought it wise and polite to splash on a dash of smell good so my ‘bike funk’ wouldn’t offend anyone. The plan backfired when the wife was offended that I would cycle alone while smelling like a jigalo. She took it as a sure sign I was on the prowl. She was wrong. But so was I. I explained it was only a preventive measure for the betterment of all those I am upwind of. But I knew I had crossed the line and sheepishly apologized and swore I wouldn’t fragrance myself again without her there to beat off the throng of aggressive hussies chasing after me and my bike. That was at about 8pm. She nodded in agreement and we hit the hay, drifting off to dreamland in each-others arms, very much in love.

*SMACK!* I woke up to a brutal closed handed smack to the upper arm around 5:30am. In my groggy incoherent sleepy state I looked up at my precious sweetheart only to find her scowling at me with another fist cocked back by her ear and her eyes fixed on my nose.

I quickly woke up fully! Propped myself on an elbow and said, “What, What’s wrong?” She responded through clenched teeth “your CHEETING!” “You cheated on me! And you’ll do it again!” And with that she started kicking and pushing me with her feet over the edge of the bed. I was thinking two things at the moment; 1.With legs this strong she should bike more. And 2. If someone is going to have a dream like that, it’s sure unfair that it’s her not me!

Once she calmed down she explained, still very angry, might I add. That overnight I had cheated on her with a red-haired girl that rides bikes. And that she saw it all. I’m such a pig she told me.

If this ever happens to you boys. This is where you do what you can to block the punches and apologize at a rate that would make most auctioneers tip their hats.

I didn’t know what protocol was, and dug my hole deeper by asking what happened in the dream. Oh yea! Bad idea. The last thing a marriage therapist would want the victim to do is recant the details, and I should have acted less interested in who I was with besides my wife… She scorned, “she’s bigger than me, but you don’t care because she is ssssoooo BAD, and YOU LIKE THAT!”

Half angry and half sad she goes on to tell me, “Pig, you’re a pig!” And that she had wavy red hair. (hmm, not what I had pictured, but go on…) (another bad idea, I should have cut her off) she went on to tell me about what a dog I am, and how she should have known better when we first met.

It’s about now that I remember the cologne from the day before, and it’s all starting to make sense. I shift gears and instead of trying to fish more details out of her dream for my own ego I put on the ‘sweet husband’ persona and assure her that it was just a dream and that I would turn and run if ever (like it’d ever happen!) a girl so much as noticed me.

So. I’ve learned another lesson out of the husband textbook. And I’ll share it with my readers. “Tis better to stink on your bike, than to stink in her dreams.”

Now, if you catch a funky odor on the trails from a guy with a gleaming gold band on his left hand racing for home and his lovely wife, you’ll know it was I.

My apologies to your nose, but at least I wont be found on a unicycle because she took half my bike in the divorce.

The kids spotted this family of 9 strolling near the trail.

By the time we got home we had 21.76 miles today. I think that's great for such young kids.

With 10.5 miles under our belt its break time.

Stopped to play at Col. Densmore Park near Westlawn Cemetery. From here we'll take the South Point Trail to the Tierra Williamsburg Trail back to the Rock Island Trail then get on the Billy Wolff Trail and head home.

Perfect day to be outdoors!

Not too hot, not too cold. No wind. What more could you ask for? Took our 11 & 12 yr old and a couple of their friends out for a ride. We already went by Holmes Lake, now we're taking a break at Antelope Park and next we'll ride by the zoo as we continue exploring the trails. Tons of families out today. Hope you are too!

Took the kids for a spin after riding to work & back.

Riding into work this morning I had some wind slowing me down. But riding home was fun and there were lots of bikes out this afternoon. Then late this afternoon I took our 11 & 12 yr old and a friend of theirs around Holmes Lake and down the Antelope Creek Trail to Jim's and visited with him about the big Nacho Ride coming up on Tuesday I don't get out on the Antelope Creek Trail often, but I always enjoy it when I do. It's such a nice trail in a great part of town with hardly any streets to cross. Can't wait till it's extended to run West down Yankee Hill Rd. Todays total = 33.08 Mi.

Common misunderstanding.

No! No! Not there!!! That means Bike "Path" not Bike "Pee"!!!

Sorry. Tasteless I know. But I couldn't resist.

Happy bike month everybody!

Dieting Mystery Solved! And, Happy National Bike Month.

Bike to work week and bike to work day is this month too.

I lost 4.5 lbs. during the last 7 days. Go figure, I can't explain it, must be the Tastee sandwiches that melted the pounds away. My thighs are still big though.

I've been 'needing' one of those new lightweight bikes since mine weighs in at 43 Lbs. with all the junk I've put on it. A good fast bike might weigh around 15 pounds. Well, with my budget that'll never happen unless Jesus makes it happen. Until then I could just keep eating Tastee sandwiches.

Since I lost 4.5 Lbs. eating 3 Tastees that equals 1.5 pounds lost for each sandwich consumed.

It's common knowledge that your propelling the same weight on your bike whether it's the bike itself or it's the fat hanging over your belt. So, time for some quick math.

New lightweight bike = $6299 14.21 Lbs.

Tastee sandwiches $1.45 Lose 1.5 Lbs. each.

To get myself and my 43 Lb. bike down to a fast weight we need to lose 28.79 Lbs. I already lost 4.5 Lbs. from the first three Tastees, now that leaves 24.29 Lbs. to go. So, 24.29 divided by 1.5 = 16.19 more Tastee sandwiches I need to eat before me and my bike are fast. At a cost of $24.65. Saving me $6274.35! Wow, I can eat like a pig, ride fast and save over six grand all at the same time! Isn't cycling great?
