Xterra Bolt race at Branched Oak Lake

I rode out to Branched Oak Lake to cheer on some friends racing today. I was asked to help run one of the timers giving me an up close view of the action. Competitors swam 1000 meters, rode mountain bikes 15 miles, then ran 5 miles. It was a perfect morning for it and it made for a fun ride out there and back. Click here and here to find out more.

We Crashed The Marathon!

A race was put togther along the Lincoln Marathon route before it began today. We met up at 3 am and began at 3:30. It was a perfect morning for a fast spin. Since there weren't many racers willing to get up / stay up we rode togther and stopped for breakfast at the Hi-Way Diner less than half-way through.

After some fuel we finished the marathon on two wheels. The winner beat me to the finish line by 15 seconds and I came away with the prize for DFL. The Crash The Marathon race was a brilliant idea copied from a LA Ca. alleycat style race held before their marathon. After riding back home as the sun rose over Lincoln I had 34.4 miles for the day by 6:30 am. Now, time for a nap.

Sights on yesterday's commute.

As usual there were cars blocking the bike trails Then I was surprised to find a wild Turkey out for a morning walk on the John Dietrich trail. During the ride home the trails were filled not only with bikes, walkers, and roller bladers, but lots of runners. Yesterday's miles on the ride to work = 19.5

Lincoln's Marathon is Sunday

The Lincoln National Guard Marathon and Half-Marathon is run on a citywide course that starts and finishes on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Runners in both races share a common start and run a loop route past the Nebraska State Capitol, along Sheridan Boulevard, past Union College, along the Highway 2 bike path, past the Lincoln County-City Building and back to the Half-Marathon finish on the UNL Campus. Marathoners then follow an out-and-back route to Holmes Park passing the Sunken Gardens, Folsom Children's Zoo and Antelope Park.
