Holmes Lake fun.

Our family spent the afternoon canoeing and fishing at Holmes Lake. We caught a couple and just really enjoyed being out on the water on a perfect day like today. Here's hoping you get a chance to spend some time outdoors this weekend with dear old dad.

Workout.

While I don't see any sense in working out or exercising just for the sake of working out, I did go for a spin early this morning. I'll be glad I did by this time next week when it'll be painfully obvious who has been conditioning and who (me) hasn't.

I have to workout on the road today, so this was my only chance for a ride. I wasn't alone though. This mallard hen was giving swimming lessons to her babies. And around a dozen sweat pants wearing participants were working out in the Union Bank parking lot. I spared them their dignity and didn't snap a picture. The South Point loop had bikers, joggers and dogs walking their owners too. I was disappointed though that The Incredible Bulk isn't open for breakfast at 5:30am. Where is the motivation to workout if there isn't a place with good food to stop at? Today's miles = 7.6

Fast as lightning.

Well, maybe not. But I did beat this morning's thunderstorm to the office. And by the time I was ready to take the Felt to the dentist after work (the bike's teeth are fine, mine needed cleaned) the sky was blue.

While I may not be as fast as I'd like to think I am, I'm not alone. Construction on the Billy Wolff is taking longer than first thought. Bikers are still being sent down the sidewalk on the West side of Capital Parkway. On the way to work I had the chance to check my brakes when a driver made a right turn onto Capital Parkway without looking right first.
In the same spot on the way home I had to navigate around 30 some YMCA youth program kids while being heckled by one of my loyal blog readers. I was starting to think the commute was getting trickier than I could handle. Slackers like me will be thankful to find the detour sends cyclists between the Teacher's Fountain and the Rose Garden and the overwhelming fragrance is enough to restore any beat down self esteem. Today's miles = 21.77

The 100th Nacho Ride draws a big crowd.

The Mopac was very busy as cyclists made their way to Eagle to celebrate the 100th Nacho Ride since they began just over 5 years ago. It was a great day to be biking. After riding to work and tonight's Nacho Ride I parked the Austro-Daimler with 38.98 miles for the day.

A quick detour.

It won't last long, but there is a detour on the Billy Wolff that takes cyclist by the Sunken Gardens on a narrow sidewalk. They'll have it open soon, but what I'm really looking forward to is having the tunnel under the 27th and Capital Parkway open again, that won't happen for months though. Today's miles on the work commute = 20.8

Rural Ride.

A half dozen of us met up for breakfast then headed to Cortland on the Homestead trail. It was a great day for it and a fun group to share some time and miles with. We got back in time for food on the patio. I then took Scott's advice and had a quick nap before riding to the office to get a few things done. Afterward the ride home treated me to a perfect sunset. The spin to Cortland was 42 miles, and the work commute was 20.4 giving me 62.4 for the day.
