Pedal or Paddle to work?

Another good thunder storm this morning left a lake to ford in parts of the trails. This week's weather keeps you guessing and makes the work commute an adventure. Give it a try sometime!

Biking with Brent.

I met up tonight with Brent for the first time this year for a spin. We started at Holmes Lake, took the Billy Wolfe to Wal-Mart on Hwy 2, then the 84th St. Trail to South St before returning and finishing with a lap around Holmes Lake to check out the walkers, those fishing and other bikers.

Tonight's ride added on another 16.6 miles bringing today's total to 36.3 miles.

What luck!

It rained early this morning, but it was over and the trails had dried up in time to ride to work. By midmorning it was coming down good again. And sure enough it stopped, the clouds parted and sun came out just in time for a beautiful ride back across the city to get home.

Once home, I made out the check and got it in the mail for the upcoming Fox Hole 100 tour. It's a 2 day SAG'ed ride to Wilbur and it's coming up fast, then a few days after that is TDN, I'm really loving June and all the biking going on! The commute came to 19.7 miles today.

A solo Sunday spin.

After supper I headed over to the Mopac and rode East out of town a couple of miles past Walton, turned South and took gravel to Pioneers then West back to Lincoln.

I wanted to break 20 miles today, so I took a lap on the trail around Holmes Lake and pulled in the driveway with a total of 21.4 miles.

Ride to Cortland, LPD bike auction & commute.

Dan, Shane & I took a morning spin down Hwy 77 to Cortland for breakfast. We were disappointed to find the cafe closed. As you can see they were feeling so famished CRAP (Cortland Rescue And Patrol) had to radio for assistance to keep them pedaling.

We then took the Homestead Trail back to Lincoln. I then split off to ride to the LPD abandoned and seized property auction to check out the bikes on the block. I didn't see any that I needed today so I continued down the trail to the office to get a bit of work done before riding home.

The heat & humidity were crazy and we even got rained on a little at times. I made it home with 71.0 miles for the day.

The First Friday art walk tonight featured a collection including some bike paintings by local artist and avid cyclist Kimberly Brown.

I rode downtown to check it out adding an extra 10.5 miles on for the day.

Cars... ugh!

I rode into the office, on the way home I took a spin down the Mopac, then stopped off at Sears where we were going to get some brake work done on the wife's car. Turns out they are still good. But getting cars worked on, paying for insurance, etc just ticks me off, it'd be nice to be one of those families that are totally car free. But hey, at least at my job when things get slow I don't have to walk the halls of the mall in a tire cover promoting specials.

Tonight is the first friday art walk featuring work by Kimberly Brown the cyclist/artist at Screen Ink. Go check it out starting at 7pm.

I also want to wish the best of luck to all my friends riding this weekend in the Urban Omaha Adventure Race, Norfolk's Crit Races, The Dirty Kanza 200 mile gravel race, and everyone embarking on BRAN this weekend. Have fun and ride safe!

The commute was cut short since I picked her car up making it just 17.3 miles.

Riding & Smiling

On the way home during today's commute I stopped off at the dentist for a check-up and cleaning, things didn't look as bad as I'd feared and I finally found a tooth doc that isn't too critical of how careless I had been in the past.

I'll finally be able to look as happy as I feel while biking. Now, how do I keep the bugs out of my teeth with all this smiling I'm doing? Today's miles = 20.5

The commute & Bike Pedalers bread & cup ride.

Last nights storms dumped 2 inches in Lincoln and this morning on the ride to work the trails were still wet and the underpasses still flooded. By afternoon everything was dried and it was perfect riding weather. I took a detour to the Saltdogs ticket office to pick up tickets to a game next week with a gift certificate we got at last years DU banquet.

Tonight I finally had the chance to join the Bike Pedalers crew on their ride downtown to bread & cup. They do the bread & cup ride on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7pm. It's a leisurely ride and the food is very good. Tonight there were 18 of us there.

A fast ride to work. After that biking took a turn for the worse.

I made record time getting to work. There was a bit of a breeze at my back, but for some reason I felt really strong and hit all the lights. It was a crazy fun ride in to the office.

After work my speed went WAY down! I had a stiff headwind and it was so muggy. Later I met up with Dan to Nacho Ride. Storms were in the area, and the crowd on the trail was thin, but we decided to give it a try. 1/2 way to Eagle the clouds got bad and the temperate dropped fast. We found out the storms that were going around Lincoln were now circling back with a vengeance.

We chose to pull the plug and turn back. We made it back to the trailhead as the first drops began, moments later it was a monsoon with hail and bad wind. We cut it close, but lucked out. Today's miles on the work commute and 1/2 a Nacho Ride = 29.6
